Robert Sowa (b.1972, Poland) is a director of animated films and a graphics artist. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, Graphics Department in 1999, specializing in animated film. Currently he works as a Director of the Animation Film Studio, Academy of Fine Arts Krakow, Poland, and is a lecturer at the Jagiellonian University, Institute of Audio-Visual Arts, also in Kraków. Robert Sowa’s films have been presented in Poland and internationally at numerous festivals and screenings, among others at Centre Pompidou in Paris, Museum of Modern Arts in New York, Festival del Film Locarno in Switzerland, Anima Mundi Gallery, Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Brasil, Center for Contemporary Art (CCCB) in Barcelona, and Center for Contemporary Art in Warsaw and National Museum in Kraków, Poland. In his films, he often explores connections between visual experimentation and sound, and creates his language through the relationship between visual and sonic spaces. His major interest is in expression of human emotions, suspended between the material and the imaginary world. In his animations he combines various techniques such us stop motion, mixed media, lighting, painting, and photography. Sequence was Robert Sowa's Ph.D. dissertation project at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, Poland.
