Work commissioned by the Polish Composers' Union; co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland within the program "Collections" - the priority "Composers' Commisions" implemented by the Institute of Music and Dance.

Composer's version (remix 2013):

ANC’L’SUNR for symphony orchestra and surround sound was commissioned by the Polish Composers’ Union for the Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra and was premiered at the  W.Lutosławski Concert Studio of Polish Radio in Warsaw on February 24, 2013.

The piece has two major components: the electronic layer realized in full surround (Ambisonics) and the orchestral part, derived from that pre-composed soundscape.

The electronic layer utilizes some of my Ambisonic recordings from the Dan Harpole Cistern at Fort Worden State Park, Washington, a unique space characterized by a 45-second reverberation time.  It also includes several outdoors recordings from the Eastern Washington desert and along the Columbia River. These recordings were realized with two of my closest friends and collaborators - Josiah Boothby (horn), and Anna Niedźwiedź (soprano), both of them have been my inspiration for many years.

After the piece was premiered by the Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra, I decided to combine the original electronic layer with several orchestral recordings from the rehearsals and the premiere, and turn it into a stand-alone spatial electroacoustic composition, without the live performance component. The result is a new soundscape, a new iteration, and a new embodiment of the original concept. This way the piece can be presented solely as an acousmatic work, without the live performance component.
